In the beginning of this month Santana introduced their latest 4x4 product. It is based on their 2500 series which was in production until 1992. After almost 1 1/2 years it finaly will go into production. By the end of March 2002 they will start the mass production of the export model and in June 2002 the European model (Euro III) will roll off the production line.
The NEW Santana, code named PS-10 but now designated as 'Hannibal', is in many aspects still the same as the 2500 series but a lot of details are changed. One of the most interesting changes is the replacement of the heavy 6 cyl diesel for the lighter, more economic, IVECO 2,8l commonrail 4 cyl. engine. This enigne is fitted to the well known LT85 5 speed / LT230 4x2/4x4 transfer box. Power steering is a standard feature.
The vehicle is still leaf sprung, to retain the simple and robust suspension features. Also different is the one piece body, which is a mixture of steel 'cage structure' and aluminium body panels. The whole body is mounted onto the sturdy, box section, chassis frame using 'silent blocs'.
The interiour is changed and improved so the driver can now find him/herself in a more comfortable possition behind the steering wheel. Extra is the airco for front and rear passengers. The defender like seatbox is gone and the floor is flat which leaves much more room. Also it enables longer persons to sit properly behind the steering wheel.
Price indication: Eur 19.000,- (excluding tax and delivery)

This is the airportable millitary version. It has many interesting features, like the 'heavy duty' front bumper and fold down side windows, which we like to sea on the civilian versions aswell.
